I work with images pretty often. Sometimes I need to resize a screenshot, turn a PNG into a JPG, or get a file under a size limit. They’re small tasks, but I seem to run into them all the time.
There are plenty of websites that can do this. What bothers me is having to upload an image first, especially if it’s a personal photo, a document, or something from work. I don’t always want to send that file to someone else’s server just to change a few pixels.
So I made my own little set of tools. You can find them together on the free image tools page.
You can compress an image, resize it, convert its format, or process several images at once. I also added a PNG to 150 KB tool, because exact upload limits can be frustrating.
The images are processed right in your browser. They aren’t uploaded to my website. No account, no extra steps.
One thing I care about: a smaller file isn’t useful if the image becomes unreadable. I wrote a short guide to compressing images without blurry results, too. So if a size limit would ruin the picture, I’d rather tell you than silently make it blurry.
That’s it, really. I needed something simple that I could use myself. Hopefully it’s useful to you too.
