We never silently switch formats or destroy detail to hit a number. A very small target may not be achievable at the original dimensions.
For compression, this is the lowest allowed JPG / WebP quality. PNG stays PNG; palette reduction is only used when visual detail can be preserved.

What does this tool do?

This free tool tries to make a PNG 150 KB or smaller while keeping it a real PNG. It retains the original pixel dimensions unless you explicitly allow resizing, and reports when the target cannot be met without excessive visual loss.

Useful for

PNG screenshots, diagrams, scanned documents, and upload forms that specifically require PNG under 150 KB.

What to know before using it

  • 150 KB is not guaranteed for every image: detailed photographs, large dimensions, and transparency may need more space.
  • Palette-based PNG reduction can alter subtle colors even when automated difference checks pass; inspect stamps, signatures, and small text.
  • Transparent PNGs preserve alpha but are not eligible for the current opaque-only palette reduction.

How to reduce PNG file size to 150 KB

  1. 1Drop your PNG image into the workspace. The target is preset to 150 KB, and PNG output is preselected.
  2. 2Choose Process images. The tool first tries a full-color PNG, then uses an indexed-color palette only if a pixel-difference check shows that detail is reasonably preserved.
  3. 3Compare the preview, especially small text. If 150 KB is not achievable at the original dimensions, choose a higher limit or explicitly allow smaller dimensions; PNG output stays PNG.

Frequently asked questions

Will my PNG get converted to JPEG?

No. This page presets PNG output. Every successful downloaded result has PNG format, not a JPG extension hiding another file type.

Will it change the width or height?

Not by default. Compression keeps the original width and height unless you check Allow smaller dimensions. You can also visit Resize mode to set an exact size.

Is the compression always lossless?

Not always. The tool prefers full-color PNG, but can reduce palette colors when a pixel-difference check suggests the change is small. Always inspect fine details before downloading.

What if my PNG has transparency?

Native PNG export preserves transparency. Palette reduction currently handles only fully opaque images, so a transparent PNG may not meet a strict target without adjusting the limit or resizing.

What if the tool cannot reach 150 KB?

You get a clear message rather than a blurry success. Increase the limit or check Allow smaller dimensions to let the tool reduce resolution while protecting detail.

Made to solve real image problems

I often need to resize, compress, or convert images for everyday tasks. I also prefer not to upload private photos and documents just to change their size. So I built these simple tools to do the job right in the browser, on your own device.
